Backcountry Ski Tours

The headquarters for Sunrise Mountain Guides is located at the foot of Mt. Mansfield adjacent to the Ranch Valley, the birthplace of skiing in Stowe with direct access to over 35 square miles of backcountry skiing terrain. Sunrise Mountain Guides offers two options for experiencing the backcountry on skis.

Intro to Backcountry Skiing

This 2 hour clinic covers; proper equipment selection, trip planning, and technique. We’ll explore the historic “Ranch Valley” while learning the fundamentals of touring the winter back woods. For intermediate level skiers. Equipment, trail fee not included.

Backcountry Day Tour

Stowe offers miles of high and low elevation backcountry ski touring. Explore the scenic Sky Top Ridge. Test your telemark on the Steeple. The Bruce, Tear Drop, Underhill….. We’ll show you another reason why people call Stowe “ The Ski Capital of the East”. Tours average 4-6 hours.
For advanced intermediate level skiers in good condition. Equipment, trail fee not included.
